31 Erection of monuments

A burial authority1 may grant, on such terms and subject to such conditions as it thinks proper, the right to place and maintain, or to put any additional inscription on, a tombstone or other memorial on a grave space, grave or vault in respect of which a right of burial (whether exclusive or general) exists2.

Inscriptions on monuments in the consecrated part of a local authority cemetery, or of a commercial cemetery subject to the Cemeteries Clauses Act 18473, are subject to the ultimate control of the bishop of the diocese, who has
