25 Consecration procedure

Where it is desired to have land consecrated for burials, the usual procedure is for a petition1 to be presented to the bishop by the body responsible for the burial ground (for example the parochial church council, the district council or the company) some time in advance of the ceremony, to allow for enquiries to be made, if necessary, as to the title to the land, the grant of planning permission for change of use and for confirmation that any approval of the Secretary of State has been obtained for the opening of a new burial place2.
