15 Powers of burial authorities

As from 1 April 1974, when the Local Government Act 1972 and regulations made under it came into force, local authorities which are burial authorities1 have the power to provide and maintain public cemeteries2. The Local Authorities’ Cemeteries Order 1977 gives burial authorities3 general powers to manage, regulate and control the cemeteries provided and maintained by them4.
