Where the Ombudsman determines in favour of the complainant a complaint under the compulsory jurisdiction of the Financial Ombudsman Scheme1, the determination may include an award against the society of such amount2 as the Ombudsman considers fair compensation for loss or damage suffered by the complainant (‘a money award’) and/or a direction3 that the respondent take such steps in relation to the complainant as the Ombudsman considers just and appropriate (whether or not a court could order those steps to be taken)4.
