146 Time limits for bringing a complaint

The Ombudsman cannot consider a complaint if the complainant refers it to the Financial Ombudsman Service less than eight weeks after receipt of the complaint by the building society, unless the society has already sent the complainant its final response1. In addition, the Ombudsman cannot, except in certain circumstances2, consider a complaint if it is made more than six months after the date on which the complainant was advised by the society in its final response that he may refer his complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service or more
