144 Jurisdiction

All authorised1 building societies are subject to the compulsory jurisdiction of the Financial Ombudsman Service2. The Ombudsman3 can consider a complaint (other than a relevant new complaint4) under the compulsory jurisdiction only if it relates to an act or omission by the society (or its appointed representative5) in the carrying on of one or more of the following activities6: regulated activities7, lending money secured by a charge on land, lending money (other than restricted credit8), paying money by a
