59 Functions of provisions for extension of time

Construction contracts commonly empower the contract administrator to grant the contractor an extension of time for completion1, where the works are delayed by certain specified events2. A valid exercise of this power relieves the contractor of any liability for late completion until the period of extension expires3. Where no power has been expressed, then there is no general rule that it will be implied.
