11.7 Use of ‘business day’, ‘business hours’

Some agreements define periods for a ‘business day’ or ‘business hours’. One meaning of such phrases relates to the times that banks are open for business (and sometimes those located in a particular locality, such as the City of London). Such meaning is not universally common and unlikely nowadays to be widely understood in a more diverse business sector. If these phrases are to be used, they should be defined clearly, for example:

‘‘business hours’ shall mean the hours from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm when Party A is open for business.’
