1.7 Summary of the formalities for executing a deed

1.7.1 Individuals and companies

This section summarises the formalities required for an agreement or other instrument to be executed as a deed by individuals and UK companies. ‘Company’ for these purposes is defined in the Companies Act 2006 Sections 1158–11601. It includes a public or private company limited by shares or guarantee. It does not include a body incorporated by royal charter, for example, many UK universities, hospital trusts and so on, which must continue to apply their common seals to deeds.
