36 Purpose

The purposes of a traveller’s cheque are:

  1. 36.1

        to give the purchaser a measure of protection against the loss or theft of his funds by providing him with an instrument to which he can easily prove his title and which has certain deterrent qualities, and

  2. 36.2

        to be an insurance against the loss or theft of his funds by enabling him to claim a refund1, often within days or even hours of the occurrence.
