28 Introduction1

When the Cheques Act 1957 was enacted it was no doubt assumed that payment instructions would always have to be in writing. It is now possible for customers of banks and other financial institutions to draw cash, make payments and otherwise operate their accounts without using paper vouchers through direct access to the computers which store their account data.
