98 Identification of the object

Identification of the object is at the core of the museum loan or other bailment. It is therefore imperative that the agreement adopt some infallible means of identification. That might consist of a reference to the catalogue number of the object within the lender’s collection, or to its commonly-accepted name and authorship, together perhaps with the dates of its creation and of its acquisition by the lending museum, or to a detailed description, or to a combination of these elements.
