37 Hire of goods

The contract of hire is a bailment whereby one person gets possession of goods belonging to another, to use them for his benefit, in return for a reward to the person to whom they belong. The purposes for which goods may be hired are numerous and can include sub-hiring, although for statutory purposes a sale or return bailment plan, entitling a dealer to keep cars on his forecourt to attract offers, was not a contract of hire1.
