192 Temporary licences

Museums and galleries are included among those who must have export licences. Since such institutions are more likely to be seeking to export an object for temporary loan to an overseas exhibition, rather than seeking a permanent export, they will normally apply for a temporary licence1. Temporary licences are issued on the basis that the object will be returned to the United Kingdom by a specified date2. An expert adviser3 may elect not to object to the granting of a temporary export licence where he would object to a permanent licence for the same object.
