185 Export licensing requirements for cultural objects

The United Kingdom’s export control system provides an opportunity for the retention in the United Kingdom of those cultural objects considered to be of outstanding national importance1. Where a person intends to export, from the United Kingdom to both European Union and non-European Union destinations, cultural goods over a certain age and certain monetary limits, an individual licence is required for export unless an exception applies. Whether a European Union or United Kingdom licence application is required depends on the type of object and the intended destination.
