Some lending institutions may want a degree of input or control over the nature of any publicity in which the loaned work features and provision can be made in the loan agreement accordingly. As with the display of the loaned work the borrowing institution should avoid altering the work or making use of a detail of the work or adding words over the work without first obtaining the approval of the artist so that there is no infringement of the artist’s right to object to derogatory treatment of the work1.
