147 Recovery of the object

Where the Secretary of State has already paid to the owner any sum under the indemnity in respect of a lost object, and that object is subsequently recovered, the owner must immediately repay to the Secretary of State that sum1. However, where the object is recovered in a damaged state, the amount repayable to the Secretary of State is reduced to an amount which represents the reduction in the value of that object as a consequence of the damage2.
