8 Conduct of auction

Administrative matters in the preparation of the auction may be entrusted by the auctioneer to his employees or agents, but the auctioneer must conduct the sale on the rostrum himself, unless the seller consents to the auctioneer delegating his authority1. Delegation is, however, not uncommon. Where joint instructions are given to two or more firms, it is desirable to have an express agreement about the conduct of the actual sale, particularly where express instructions to offer the property by private treaty form part of the arrangement.
