9 Transit and export

In addition to making orders to provide import and export restrictions and control specified diseases1, the Secretaries of State2 have a general power under the Animal Health Act 1981 to make orders regulating the conditions under which cattle, horses and other animals may be transported, and generally to provide for their health and safety whilst being so transported, loaded or unloaded3. There are, additionally, specific provisions to regulate the export of horses and ponies4. Records of movements are required to be kept5. Many orders contain a prohibition
