The Secretary of State for Defra, or in relation to Wales, the National Assembly, acting jointly1 may make orders to prevent the introduction or spread of disease into or within Great Britain through the importation of animals, carcases of animals, poultry and eggs, and other animate or inanimate things capable of carrying or transmitting disease2 and must undertake an annual review of import controls3.
