19 Zoo licensing

Under the Zoo Licensing Act 19811 it is unlawful to operate a zoo2 without a local authority licence. At least two months before applying for a licence, the applicant must give written notice to the local authority of his intention to apply, must publish a notice of that intention in one local and one national newspaper and must exhibit a copy of that notice at the proposed site3. The notice must identify the situation of the zoo and contain certain specified information4. The local authority is obliged to take into account any representations made by certain persons
