16 Dangerous dogs

Specified types of fighting dog1 must be muzzled and kept on a lead2 when in a public place3 and it is an offence to breed, sell, exchange, make a gift of, advertise or abandon such dogs or allow them to stray4. Compensation may be paid to the owner for the destruction of such a dog5. The Secretary of State may by order impose restrictions requiring other types of dog which present a serious danger to the public to be controlled by muzzle and lead when in a public place, or making it an offence to abandon such
