8 Allotment gardens: powers and duties of councils1

Under the Allotments Acts 1908–1950, it is the duty of district and parish councils (or, in Wales, any community, county or county borough council) to provide allotment gardens2 if in their opinion there is a demand for them, and to let them to persons resident in their areas3.
