49 Appropriation or letting of land held for other purposes

A council1 may appropriate, for allotments, land held for other purposes2. Restrictions are, however, placed on the appropriation of a common, a town or village green or land dedicated for recreation3.

A smallholdings authority may let land acquired or appropriated for smallholdings for cultivation as an allotment, or to a local authority4 for subletting for such use5.
