8 Boundaries

The ownership of, and responsibility for, boundaries is an important and relevant question for any solicitor dealing with agricultural land1. Where there is no indication from title deeds, as will usually be the case, the landowner should be pressed to indicate which boundaries he has maintained as his own. Although boundaries on arable land may be of less importance, and while livestock farmers will always be subject to the liability for damage caused by their stock straying onto another’s land2, boundaries can be the source of dispute and discussion in several particular areas.
