6 Employment

The link between land and the business of farming is close, and the sale of farmland and buildings may constitute a transfer of an ‘undertaking’1 even if there is no accompanying transfer of machinery, contracts or goodwill.

Farm employees may live in houses on the estate as service occupants2 or as protected agricultural workers3 and decisions as to the future employment of staff are often linked to decisions as to the occupation of cottages.
