503 Ending the exemption for agricultural waste

For a number of years the UK government argued that agricultural wastes were wholly outside the scope of the Waste Framework Directive. However, following a declaration from the European Court of Justice, the UK government finally conceded that the exemption was in breach of both the Waste Framework Directive and the Landfill Directive, and it changed the law. The UK government has introduced a system of regulations extending to agricultural wastes similar controls to those applying to wastes produced by other industrial sectors within the UK.
