415.2 Development subject to environmental impact assessment

The Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2011 distinguish between two types of development, referred to in the 2011 Regulations as ‘Schedule 1 development’ and ‘Schedule 2 development’1. All development falling within a category specified in Schedule 1 requires an environmental impact assessment (‘EIA’) to be carried out. For developments listed in Schedule 2 of the Regulations, an individual determination on whether EIA is required must be made according to certain applicable thresholds and criteria2. Development requiring EIA to be carried out is referred to in the Regulations as ‘EIA Development’.
