410 Agricultural development: application for express planning permission

Where agricultural activities are proposed which comprise development but fall outside of the prescribed parameters of permitted development rights1, an express grant of planning permission will be required. A formal application must be made to the relevant planning authority for the area in which the land is situated and the requisite fee paid2.

The type of development for which planning permission may be sought may also trigger a requirement for environmental impact assessment3.
