4.3 Farm business tenancies

Since 1 September 1995, any new business tenancies of agricultural land are protected by the Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995 (‘the 1995 Act’)1 unless the tenancy falls within the limited categories set out in Section 4 of that Act. Whilst the 1995 Act protects the tenants by allowing fixed term tenancies of two years or more to continue as annual periodic tenancies2 and by providing rules as to the length of break rights and notices to quit for certain tenancies3, there are no restrictions on the reasons for which notices can be served
