In Wales the forerunner to the Glastir scheme was Tir Gofal1 which started in April 1999 and continued until 31 December 2011.Tir Gofal was a competitive scheme so farmers had to compete for funds by seeking to deliver gains against identified targets. Like Glastir, Tir Gofal was a ‘whole farm’ scheme under which the farmer was required to enter the whole of his holding into the scheme and comply with baseline requirements over the wider area as well as delivering enhanced benefits in relation to more targeted areas.
