251 Background

In Wales, the place of Countryside Stewardship is occupied by Glastir which, as with the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, is a competitive scheme under which farmers compete for funds, by seeking to deliver gains against identified targets. Glastir is a ‘whole farm’ scheme, thus the farmer is required to enter the whole of his holding into the scheme and comply with baseline requirements over the wider area, as well as delivering enhanced benefits in relation to more targeted areas.
