246 Countryside Stewardship and the Basic Payment Scheme

Land used under the Basic Payment Scheme can also be entered into a Countryside Stewardship scheme agreement. In certain cases land that is ineligible for the Basic Payment Scheme may in fact be eligible for Countryside Stewardship.

During the course of a Countryside Stewardship Scheme agreement, land within that scheme, which is initially eligible under the Basic Payment scheme, may subsequently become ineligible, if for example an area of woodland is created over time, which cannot readily be returned to agriculture.
