222.2 Access under Agricultural Environmental Schemes

In the past the original Countryside Stewardship Scheme (which closed to applications in March 2004) provided permissive access to land. In addition, open and linear access, which upgraded access allowed under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, and educational access were included as options for early agreements under Environmental Stewardship in England and Tir Gofal and Glastir in Wales1.

Under current agreements only educational access remains an option; under Higher Level Environmental Stewardship and under Higher-tier Countryside Stewardship agreements.
