216 Ministry of Defence land

Whilst there is no legal right of public access to Ministry of Defence land, the Ministry allows public access to the Defence Estate, wherever this is consistent with operational security and safety requirements and is compatible with the interests of conservation and land management.

Access is denied to areas used by the Ministry of Defence for military exercises and weapons testing. For example, where a highway or footpath crosses any land the use of which may be regulated by byelaws under the Military Lands Act 1892, a byelaw may be made with the consent of the
