Planning permission for the erection or conversion of dwellings on farmland may frequently be made subject to a condition in the planning permission that they are to be occupied only by a person who is wholly or mainly employed in agriculture in the area. Such conditions have become more frequent in recent years, but may date back to before the computerisation of local authority records and specific enquiry should therefore be made of local authority planning departments for entries which pre-date computerised records.
