12.3 Ecclesiastical rights

Agricultural land may also be subject to rights of ecclesiastical origin. Tithe redemption annuity, frequently mentioned in old deeds, used to affect all agricultural land but was abolished by the Finance Act 1977. Other ecclesiastical charges still exist, for example corn rents or modus rents, but these are usually very small fixed sums and often have not been paid for many years.
