114 Changes to consequence of notification

The provisions of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 dealing with sites of special scientific interest (SSSI) were substantially amended by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. Before the changes brought in by that Act, an occupier who wished to carry out a potentially damaging operation on a SSSI was required to give Natural England and the Natural Resources Body for Wales (as the case might be) written notice of his intention. There was then a period of four months during which the requisite body for England or Wales had the opportunity
