438 Introduction to assured shorthold tenancies

The Housing Act 1980 introduced protected shorthold agreements1 which enabled a landlord to enter into a tenancy agreement with a tenant for a fixed period of between one and five years without granting security of tenure beyond the term created provided the tenant was given notice in a prescribed form prior to the grant of the tenancy warning him of its shorthold nature.
