The Direct Marketing Association of the United States operates a voluntary email marketing preference service (‘e-MPS’) which United Kingdom marketers can use via the United Kingdom Direct Marketing Association (‘DMA’) on a voluntary basis, paying a fee for the right to regularly ‘clean’ their email list against the e-MPS list. In addition the United Kingdom DMA’s Direct Marketing Code of Practice requires that DMA members intending to send unsolicited marketing emails to recipients outside the European Economic Area check their email lists with the e-MPS list before doing so.
