51 Marketing preference schemes

51.1 General

Various preference services are operated in the United Kingdom in respect of marketing in different media. Some are statutory, some voluntary. All offer individuals the opportunity of registering, free of charge, on a database containing details of all those who do not wish to receive unsolicited marketing approaches by the particular medium in question. In parallel, they offer marketers, in return for payment, the facility of being able to periodically ‘clean’ their relevant lists so that those who have registered can be removed.
