34.1 Statutory definition

The Gambling Act 2005 introduces, for the first time, a statutory definition of a lottery2, which may be either a simple or a complex lottery. An arrangement is a simple lottery if participants are required to pay to enter, one or more prizes are allocated to one or more members of a class, and prizes are allocated by a process which relies ‘wholly on chance’3.
