31 General

The term ‘sales promotion’ covers the use of incentives as a means of stimulating the sale of goods and services, for example ‘money off next purchase’ coupons; ‘two for the price of one’ offers; and, of particular relevance to this section, prize draws and competitions. The main statutory provisions governing prize draws and competitions, contained in the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976, have been superseded by the Gambling Act 2005. However, as at the date of writing, the main operational provisions of the Gambling Act 2005 have not been brought into force. This
