Since January 2005 the advertising and selling of most types of insurance has been regulated by the Financial Services Authority (‘FSA’)1 pursuant to updates to the FSA Handbook implementing Council Directive (EC) 2002/92 on insurance mediation2. Most of these rules are contained in the ‘Insurance: Conduct of Business Rules’ (‘ICOB’) section of the FSA Handbook. Excluded from this regime are insurance policies sold as part of a package of products, such as travel insurance sold with a holiday; warranties that come with a product and are not, for example, a separately charged extended warranty;
