12 The BCAP Radio Advertising Standards Code

The Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (‘BCAP’) Radio Advertising Standards Code1 applies to all advertisements on radio services licensed by the Office of Communications (‘Ofcom’). It is an updated version of the former Radio Authority’s Advertising and Sponsorship Code2. Complaints under the Radio Advertising Standards Code are handled by the Advertising Standards Authority (Broadcast) Limited under powers contracted out by Ofcom. Compliance with the Code is a condition of broadcasters’ licences with Ofcom. In the event of a breach, Ofcom may impose sanctions against the broadcaster3.
