Its been a bad month for Comet....Former employees of the electrical retailer Comet have called for the Insolvency Service to consider whether the administrators should face criminal charges over alleged mishandling of redundancies at the retailer. The Insolvency Service is being asked to consider whether the correspondence between the administrators and the Business Secretary, Vince Cable, constituted a criminal offence under the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992, s 194.

This comes the same month that Comet employees won an estimated £10m payout after an employment tribunal concluded they were insufficiently consulted about their redundancies. Over 2,000 workers filed a claim against the retailer's owners after the company collapsed in late 2012.
The tribunal ruled nearly 7,000 workers were not properly consulted about losing their job. Staff members will be entitled to a maximum of eight weeks's pay worth £450 a week.
