C&I Group: demystifying regulatory issues for in-house lawyers

Last week LexisNexis hosted a Commerce & Industry Group (London Region) breakfast seminar on SRA Regulatory Compliance for in-house lawyers.

Increasingly in-house lawyers are on the radar of the SRA and coming under the regulatory spotlight with the new regulations introducing increased accountability, responsibility and exposure to liability. Topics covered in the session included:

  • a look into the new SRA rule book – what does this mean for in-house lawyers?
  • the scope and impact of legal professional privilege rules for in-house lawyers
  • the prospect of tri-regulation and managing competing regulatory authorities
  • SRA raids - how likely are they, what will they be looking for and how should they be handled?
  • What is the outlook for in-house lawyers under the new regime?

With over 50 in-house lawyers from various organisations turning up for the event, it was an excellent opportunity for in-house lawyers to catch up with fellow C&I Group members and professionals. It also presented an opportunity for Q&A style discussion giving valuable insight into key issues for peers in other companies and sectors, and how they are dealing with them.
