I had the pleasure of working with Sir Christopher Sumner in his role as Consultant Editor of Butterworths Family Law Service from 2007 to 2012. The following is a short tribute to a lovely man that will be published in the September issue of Butterworths Family and Child Law Bulletin:
Former Butterworths Family Law Service Consultant Editor, Sir Christopher Sumner, passed away on the 12th August 2013 aged 73. With his incredible intellect, Sir Christopher will be remembered for his many years as a High Court judge of the Family Division, a role to which he brought thoughtfulness and compassion. As Consultant Editor he contributed his great wisdom and experience as well as his wonderful company and conversation at Editorial Board meetings and dinners. Sir Christopher practiced at the Bar for more than 20 years at 12 Kings Bench Walk before becoming a circuit judge in 1987. He was appointed as a High Court judge of the Family Division in 1996 and also sat in the Court of Appeal, particularly in complex children matters. His contributions to the family justice system included roles with the Judicial Studies Board and as Chairman of Advocacy Training of the Inner Temple. He will be greatly missed.
My deepest condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues.
