In preparation for Thursday's 2013 Costs and Litigation Funding conference we are delighted to publish chairman Nicholas Bacon QC's welcome letter.
I write to introduce myself and to give you notice of this year’s Butterworths’ annual Costs and Litigation Funding conference, to be held on Thursday 31 October in Central London. Following the well-deserved retirement of His Honour Michael Cook from public engagements of this nature, I will be acting as Chairman of the event this year; Michael’s are big shoes to fill, but I will endeavour to guide you through the developments that have occurred this year – and what a year! We finally have experience of how the ‘Jackson reforms’ are working in practice and, naturally, these experiences will form the bulk of the content for discussion. I'm delighted to be chairing an event with excellent speakers in this area of practice, including: Master Haworth, Costs Judge, Senior Courts Costs Office Senior Master Whitaker, Queen's Bench Division, High Court of Justice David Chalk, Faculty of Business, Law, & Sport, University of Winchester We, and our other prominent peers on the speaker panel, will aim to guide you in: Understanding how the new Part 36, post-Jackson has changed costs settlements Determining the fallout of the reforms on costs estimates and management Assessing where the reforms leaves the market for third-party funding Reviewing the key cases impacted by the reforms and what they mean for the future I very much look forward to welcoming you to the event. Yours Sincerely, Nicholas Bacon QC 4 New Square
