Welsh Government publishes new coronavirus (COVID-19) testing strategy

The Welsh Minister for Health and Social Services, Vaughan Gething, has published Wales’ new coronavirus (COVID-19) testing strategy, which aims to ensure that individuals displaying coronavirus symptoms can be tested quickly and easily. The strategy focuses on ‘four priority areas’—contract tracing, delivering NHS services, protecting vulnerable groups and developing future delivery. It also concerns the role of asymptomatic testing and states that this will continue where there is greatest risk, including for the elderly populations and care workers. Additionally, the strategy confirms that the testing programme for care homes will continue for further for weeks and, if the current low levels remain, testing will move to a fortnightly cycle.
